“I guess I’ll start with, well, the start. That intro is the most AO3 AU fanfic shit I have ever seen in a film. I immediately was thinking ‘oh no, I’ve walked into a stinker’. Starting with ‘knock knock, who’s there, Mary fucking Shelley’ is a horrificly tumblr ass way to go, They won me back a bit once a rapist got fuckin curb stomped. Cheered in the theater for that one. And Indiana was included at least somewhat prominently, score 1 for the good guys. This absolutely did not need to be as long as it was though. But a lot the dialogue leaves more to be desired. Some was on the nose, some was straight up just bad. Maybe it’s just me, but it really did not seem like she really wanted to be with Frank by the end. Her strong reaction of grief had me more confused than anything. I understand she’s got a whole multiple personality deal going, but it really seemed like the point being driven home the whole move was the whole ‘independent woman’ deal, but then it’s just not that for the ending. And I have to say, there’s NO FUCKING WAY that no one on this film didn’t know who Timeless Toni Storm was. The Mary Shelley side was IDENTICAL in tone, intonation, delivery literally everything. I was baffled, instant whiplash.  Final verdict: aggressively ok.”
